Along the path of parenting,
opportunities for worthy praise present themselves through your child’s work, effort and self-reflection:

  • “Wow, how did you do it?”
  • “Why do you think you succeeded?

Looking into a less-than happy face:

  • “What is one thing you did that worked really well?”

EFFORT and PROCESS , authentically praise (not intelligence, not product) when reviewing results of a test:

  • “You’re so smart!” (boo!)
  • “You studied really hard for that test,” (Yay!)

Upon having written a beautiful poem:

  • “You’re a great writer,” (shallow, rings hollow)
  • “The metaphors you used were very creative! (Yippee, you really mean it!)

Praise your child for showing strength of character:

  • “You showed great perseverance in your soccer game by giving it your all the whole time,”

Daily, look for evidence of:

  • Perseverance
  • Self-Regulation
  • Gratitude
  • Optimism
  • Curiosity
  • Social Intelligence
  • Zest for life

And this is what you will find!
